‘A large-scale retrofit project carried out in an operational environment’
At the start of 2022 RFE began sprinkler upgrade works at the well-known multi beverage business AG Barr, in Cumbernauld, Scotland.
This retrofit project included upgrades to the existing automatic sprinkler system in the production, storage and distribution centres of the main factory building, all designed to NFPA standards. Areas covered included the warehouse - including racking and canopy coverage, the conveyor link tunnel, the essence building, storage areas and walkways.
To supply all areas on site the upgraded system required a new dedicated water supply. This involved the building of a new LPCB pumphouse (housing three half duty diesel fire pumps) and two 650m water tanks. Works involved various disconnections of the existing hydrant ring main and the installation of new underground sprinkler mains supplied from the new pump house/tanks. As this was an entirely new pumphouse, our work included the excavation and building of the bases, new access road and paths.
All works on this large-scale retrofit project were carried out in a fully operational environment with minimal disruption to the client. Our installation was successfully completed on time and to budget in November 2023.
